| GOALS & PURSUIT - SOURCES OF CONFLICT |
While primarily written to entertain, the series also is intended to prompt debate about the behavior and choices of the characters. A Promise of Revenge (The Death of Javier) has an underlying theme focused on relationships. In real life, many people would agree that getting married to the right person, in general, is a good goal. Many people would agree that a parent, seeking medical care for a sick child, is pursuing a good goal. Many people would agree that having grandchildren is a good goal. Having good goals, but going after those goals in inappropriate or poor ways may create major problems. In reading this book, look closely at the relationships and communication among the characters. Most of the characters in this book are pursuing good goals too, but are going after those goals in questionable ways. What would you do for a loved one? And what would you do if you believed that you wouldn't be caught? Put yourself in the characters' shoes and think about what you might do in similar situations. Thank you very much!
