Book Description

This novel strikes just the right balance between drama and humor. It's about tragedies
that join all of our lives together and also will have you laughing out loud.

Love in my Teardrops by Vanessa Hollis begins as follows:

                             INTRODUCTION

Mekyla entered Bergstrom International Airport through the automatic
glass doors. The wheels of her suitcase, humming across the sidewalk a
moment earlier, clacked over the metal strip of the doorway, and then fell silent
as they reached the brightly patterned carpet. Tired, she led the bag to a window
and stared out at the planes coming in to land, and rising fast out of Austin after takeoff.

Sinking into deep thought, she wiped the occasional tear from her face.
She had been called back home for a family emergency, one of her sisters had
been admitted to the hospital. No one has told her why. If confronted, Mekyla,
sooner than she had hoped, would have to make a decision about not only her
life, but someone else’s. She’d made that kind of decision before, but in a
completely different context.

Wiping a few final tears from her eyes, she began to think about modern
airport security and remembered she’d need extra time before boarding the flight.
She looked at her watch, and then began to trot toward the ticket counter,
working her way around less purposeful passengers, feeling in the side pocket
of her purse, reassuring herself for the hundredth time that she had her ticket.
She’d have to make that one last phone call before boarding the flight as well, to
confirm her ride upon arrival. Mekyla heaved a habitual sigh – a sigh that would
usually have meant that if she could be doing something different, something
different would win.
