Daring Quests of Mystics by Shirley Cheng

Book Description

Oracle Dawn warns Princess Sophia of danger on her upcoming wedding day. With two magical gifts:
a white dove and a multicolored ring of rhinestones, the princess must conquer the evil ahead.

Daring Quests of Mystics by Shirley Cheng begins as follows:

                                               The Magical Gifts

                                                   Chapter One

The adventure started a long time ago, in a land of green, rolling hills. It was a
time of magic and mystery and a time of great knights and powerful kingdoms. On a
high, but not so steep mountain, stood a grand stone castle overlooking the prominent
countryside of Noxellia. Yonder the hills held busy and noisy villages with bustling
people: parents trying to calm crying babies, traveling merchants, and officials providing
peace and security. The tall castle often cast a shadow on the villages--not a menacing
form, but one that gave warmth and protection. Villagers often looked up to the castle;
some made up adventures to tell to their children, while some others wished to
experience the leisure of living there. Many had heard of the kind King Fulacian, and his
treasured daughter, Princess Sophia. King Fulacian was a man of honest words and great
actions. But the king was touched by sadness when his beloved wife, Queen Sherxia,
passed away some years ago from an unknown disease.
The land had always been blessed with good weather, with sunrays kissing
everyone and everything in sight, and gentle breezes playfully teasing women's hair. The
green hills were covered with incalculable wildflowers that appeared to dance in the
wind. Tall, majestic trees dotted the undulating hills, providing cool, shady spots. And
toward the east ran a small, glistening stream with colorful marine life.
And on this sunny day, it so happened to be a day of feasting, for it was Princess
Sophia's seventeenth birthday, and she was to wed the next month.
Princess Sophia was loved and cherished by all, not just because she was
charming and beautiful, but because she was a very kindhearted and gentle person with
distinguished manners and a heart of gold.
